Initially when we made our our Large Oval Platter, I thought I had missed the mark with the design. It is a very big platter (16 x 12 inches!). We made it in 2021, just after moving into a larger studio and learning how to make more ceramics. My satisfaction with its perfection and the technical feat of creating it was swiftly, naturally eclipsed by my doubts once it was finished and out in the world. I wondered if it was comically large and impractical. Looking back, I wonder if that had less to do with the platter and more to do with my own uncertainty about the growing business. We eventually made the Medium Oval platter - absolving my doubts about the larger one. Over the years I’ve seen exactly how the Large Oval fits in, and I’m happy we have it in our lineup. It is unusual, it is really big, and there is definitely a place for it.

The Large Oval is great if you’re serving a group family style for a large gathering; we sell them to restaurants and hotels leveling up their catering serve-ware. In the opposite direction, a friend of the studio has used the Large Oval along with another vintage SKS platter as a creative serving choice at a table for 2. They were kind enough to share their photo with me so I could share it with you.
I love this:

CUTE! Thanks for sharing, Yannez + Marley.
Summer might be its season. Corn still in the husk, kebabs, a whole fish, whatever you will, can be arranged straight on the platter, with space for all of it, ready to serve.
Whether you're gathering for the holiday weekend or simply cooking dinner for family or friends, I hope there's time to slow down, put a big platter in the middle of the table, and enjoy being together.
Happy Fourth,
Sarah
